| Transcribing in Linux: Easy As 1, 2, 3...
I'm fairly sure that this is not open source software. My reasoning for stating this, since I have yet to see anything even close to Express Scribe, in the open source world as of yet. Much like MainActor is to those who want entry level software for decent video editing, I see Express Scribe as filling this same need, and perhaps even hitting a more important piece of the Linux puzzle. read more iTALC promotes learning on a classroom network iTALC, or Intelligent Teaching and Learning with Computers, is a didactical tool designed to assist teachers. Despite its name, the tool itself isn't a learning environment. It's meant to let teachers control their students' computers in a computer-driven classroom setting. Thanks to its powerful remote desktop control features, simple setup, and lack of cost, it's a potential remote assistance tool for any type of network.
Nikon D60 SLR Packs a Punch
There was a time, back in the days of film (you remember film, don't you?), when Nikon, competing with Canon as industry leader in SLR cameras, made one flagship model and stuck with it. The Nikon F3 was its top-of-the-line camera for 17 years. Today, 17 months is a long time. Nikon now manufactures eight different digital SLRs and, in the spirit of the digital age, keeps updating them. Less than a year after the 10-megapixel D40x, here's the 10-megapixel D60. .
Womanizing + Conglomeration
But it wouldn't be the end of the world if they had to answer one asking "if Arnold Schwarzenegger is a cyborg." ... P.P.S.: I was booked last week for a CNN/YouTube pre-debate hype special today, but yesterday the producer called, said "we need to trim a bit," and un-booked me. It's not at all uncommon to get bounced from shows, so for all I know they needed to trim a bit. ... 2:55 A.M. link Thursday, July 19, 2007 Hmm. I'm an air-paranoid, and maybe the experts have learned something about asbestos exposure since 1989, but it was troubling to come across this quote from a NYT story about the asbestos-spewing steam pipe explosion in Gramercy Park in that year: Even one day's exposure to fibers in the air can increase the risk of lung cancer, said Dr.
All-paper voting bill has bipartisan face
It is a huge step forward," said Myriah Conroy, a plaintiff in the 2006 suit against then-Secretary of State Gigi Dennis. "It is really brave and courageous of the (legislative) leadership to bring this forth." But many county clerks call the paper-ballot proposal a step backward, predicting long lines and glitches on Election Day and delayed results. In fact, clerks nicknamed the measure the "Help Colorado Wait in Line Act." 'Chaos' predicted "There is going to be chaos," Mesa County Clerk Janice Rich said Tuesday. "Welcome to Florida 2008." The bill calls for voters statewide to cast paper ballots at polling sites for the August primary and November general elections, but also allows people to vote on touchscreen machines if they ask to. The measure has unprecedented support - the only bill this year to be co-sponsored by the top Republican and Democratic leaders of both chambers, according to Senate Majority Leader Ken Gordon, D-Denver.
Inqlings: Booker: Rumors are wrong
Q102 morning man Chris Booker yesterday shot down a New York Post item that said he's considering "two lucrative radio deals and a major TV gig" in New York. Booker, under contract here till May 2009, told me that he believes that the Post blurb, attributed to "industry sources," was inspired by an anonymous posting on a blog. (The Internet is an industry, right?) He also denied another unattributed rumor, on the blog Orbitcast.com last week, that he was telling people he would take over mornings at New York radio station WXRK when Opie & Anthony's contract expires. "All I know [about the alleged job offers] is what I read about on the Internet," Booker said, seemingly relieved that my questions did not involve girlfriend Alycia Lane. Booker, now modeling on "Got Milk" billboards, acknowledges that he's in the market for TV appearances that he can fit around his day job; he recently wrapped work for TV Guide Channel.

NLCC honors Wright
Smith and Co-Lin founded the NLCC in 1990. “Richard Wright was born on a plantation a few miles east of Natchez in 1908," she said. “Though he had only a ninth-grade education, and though he had to overcome desperate poverty, he achieved international fame for his writing." Wright died in Paris, France, in 1960. “The NLCC is kicking off a world-wide tribute to Richard Wright this year. We expect large crowds, including numerous Wright relatives from across the country." Wright is renowned for such works as the novel, “Native Son;" the fictionalized autobiography, “Black Boy;" and a collection of stories, “Uncle Tom's Children," which was chosen Book-of-the-Year in 2008 by a statewide project called “Mississippi Reads." “Since 1940, when “Native Son" sold hundreds of thousands of copies in a matter of weeks, many of his books have been bestsellers and continue to sell," said Jerry W.
