The One America Committee says it is "dedicated to helping elect Democratic candidates across the country." The most important Democrat seems to be Senator John Edwards. Remember him? Eight months after the 2004 Presidential election, Senator Edwards launched a video blog. While it is hard to imagine the Senator fiddling around with his computer late at night editing video (he has some professional help on this), it does maintain a grassroots, homemade feeling. Citizens (right now mostly video bloggers) can video tape a question and send it in. Then Sen. Edwards answers the question, also on video. The end result is a time-delayed conversation, or a really long town hall meeting. It is a great application of the vlog concept. And a good indicator that the Internet will continue to be a key tool in politics.

Ice Fouls Morning Commute
He must have decided not to call out the plows because after all, it'll melt eventually and let's not spend anymore on snow and ice removal at this time of year. Where's Hal Daub when you need him...the streets haven't been cleared right since he was in office. Posted by: k Location: omaha on Feb 26, 2008 at 12:27 PM I saw the Nebraska State trucks out doing the interstate, but not once did i see a Omaha City truck last night nor this morning, I slide twice on 30th street trying to stop once for a turning car and the second time for a stop light. So I too would like to know were in the heck the city trucks were at, because they sure weren't out salting the roads. Posted by: Laura Location: Council Bluffs on Feb 26, 2008 at 12:19 PM Usually I blame the nut-case drivers in these situations, but I agree this time about the sand trucks, which had all day yesterday to take care of things (the snow started in the morning).
Norwegian broadcaster: P2P experiment "extremely positive"
Solheim said in an interview (republished on NRK's blog in English) that the experience will likely "clear the rights for this kind of distribution of more content." Since the experiment's inception just over a month ago, Nordkalotten 365 has been downloaded over 90,000 times—shocking to NRK, since Norway is a small country of only 4.6 million. Not only that, but the people downloading have been good torrenters too. The files have had ratios close to 95 percent, which Solheim said saved license fee payers 95 percent of all distribution costs. "People are happily seeding the files," Solheim said. There was also less resistance to the project than he thought, once the network was able to get the message across that BitTorrent isn't "illegal." Solheim said that the managers of Nordkalotten 365 were surprisingly open to the idea, even composing their own music to avoid dealing with licensing fees.
Wild Card -- Tuesday PM
For those keeping score at home, there was a good reason why Duane Hagadone pulled his memorial garden request in December. He woulda gotten clobbered at the polls. On Dec. 15, two days before he pulled the request, internal polling for the library bond showed the downtown garden proposals failing 72% to 28% (outta 756 replies). This, while the poll showed the library passing with 63% and the public safety bond with 56%). And you were wondering why The Duane didn't want to risk an advisory vote? ... *I visited the Ron Rankin Veterans Memorial Plaza this p.m., and I'm certain The Ronfather woulda been pleased. You don't get the impact of the eagle statue, donated by the Rankin family, from photos. It's huge. And the new war mural of the kneeling Marines at Fallujah ... well, you can't visit the plaza without feeling as though you're on holy ground.

Film fest brings Hollywood flare to Belcher Center
A longtime campus event at LeTourneau University opens to the community Feb. 29 when an amateur Film Festival moves to the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center. The event pits short movies shot by students, and this year by residents, against each other in an awards show format. Several films will be shown. "We're doing the whole red carpet thing," student coordinator James Christopherson said. "So, if people want to dress up for it, that would be neat. "We had several very, very good films this year that, on their own, are worth coming out to see. This has always been just a smaller campus activity. This year we get to open it up (to the community). We're really excited about it." Christopherson said about 15 amateurs submitted short film entries this year, ranging from five to 15 minutes long.
